Chrome effect spray gives decorative objects a bright, chrome-like shine in silver or gold. It works on metal, paper, wicker, ceramics and most plastics, and suits indoor pieces like candle stands, vases, frames and ornaments. What it isn’t is real chrome. What finish does chrome effect spray give?
Pintyplus describes it as a chrome effect spray paint for decorative and art and craft purposes, in gold and silver. Applied in thin coats on a smooth, clean surface, it gives a bright metallic shine that looks like chrome from a normal viewing distance. On rough or textured surfaces such as wicker, it still shines, but the texture shows through.
It is a paint, so it follows the surface under it. A smooth object gives a smooth chrome look. A scratched or bumpy one gives a shiny scratched or bumpy one.
Which surfaces does it suit?
Pintyplus lists metal, paper, wickerwork, ceramics and most plastic materials, and gives indoor decorative objects such as candelabras, vases and picture frames as typical uses. Good projects include:

Why is it decorative, not automotive chrome?
Real chrome on a motorbike or car is metal plating: a hard layer bonded to the part in a factory. Chrome Effect is a thin decorative paint layer. Pintyplus is clear about the limits:
- Avoid handling the painted object.
- It should not be rubbed, varnished or treated with any cleaner or solvent, because it will lose its gloss.
- For cleaning, a duster is better than a rag.

How do you get the brightest finish?
1. Start with a smooth, clean surface
The surface must be clean, dry and free of any contaminants. Sand out scratches and bumps first, because the chrome finish will show them. Wipe off dust and grease.
2. Shake the can
Shake for one minute after you hear the mixing balls.
3. Spray thin, quick coats
Hold the can 25 to 30 cm from the object and spray thin, quick layers, first horizontally and then vertically. Two thin coats are better than one thick coat, which can sag. Leave an hour between coats.
4. Let it dry without touching
It dries in about 30 minutes. Stand small pieces on a support so you don’t have to hold them, and resist checking the finish with your fingers.
5. Clear the nozzle
Turn the can upside down and spray until only gas comes out. Work in a ventilated place and keep the spray away from anything connected to the electricity supply.
How do you look after chrome-painted pieces?
Place them where they will be admired rather than picked up: a shelf, a mantel, a display table. Dust them with a soft duster. Don’t wipe them with a wet cloth, glass cleaner or polish, and don’t put a clear varnish over them hoping to protect them. Pintyplus says all of these make the finish lose its gloss.
Silver or gold?

Common questions
Can I spray it on my bike’s silencer or chrome parts?
No. It is decorative and won’t survive handling, washing, weather or heat.
Can I varnish over it to make it tougher?
No. Pintyplus says varnishing makes it lose its gloss.
Does it work on plastic?
Pintyplus lists most plastic materials. Test on a hidden spot first, and clean the plastic well.
How much will one can cover?
